What's Your Purpose in Life?

" What every man/woman needs, regardless of his/her job or the kind of work he is doing, is a vision of what his place is and may be. He needs an objective and a purpose. He needs a feeling and a belief that he has some worthwhile thing to do. What this is no one can tell him. It must be his own creation. Its success will be measured by the nature of his vision, what he has done to equip himself, and how well he has performed along the line of its development. "
~ Joseph M. Dodge
We all have a purpose in life. Some of us have found it, some of us are still in search of it, and some of us don't have a clue. In Western society, most people get a job out of necessity. They don't really care what they do as long as they get a paycheck. They go to work and go through the motions without finding any meaning in their work. Some are happy because they have the money to pay bills and provide for their family. Some are unhappy because although they have money, their job does not fulfill their souls with meaning. This seems to be the case with many people in America. They spend more time looking at the clock and counting down the minutes til it's time to go home.

I'm not saying that this is not the case now, but there used to be a time when most people took pride in their work and believed that their work was their calling. Nowadays, people do something just because "it pays good" or their parents/friends urged them into doing it. We must follow our own heart and do something that we love. When we are not doing work that we love, it takes away our energy and focus. Our focus should be on our dreams and aspirations. We should be doing something today to get closer to achieving our goals in life.

Each of us has something that we love to do. When we are doing what we love we are relaxed, in bliss, and pay no attention to the time. Some of us are fortunate to get paid to do what we love, and others may work another job to support what we love to do. Whatever the case may be, there must be a balance in order for one to be happy and have a purposeful life.

It took awhile to get where I am today. I've realized, though, that every job I've had has given me the experience I needed for whatever I'll be doing in the future. I don't get paid millions now, but we'll see what the future holds :)

Have you found your purpose yet?
