Turning Back the Hands of Time

For some of us, tomorrow at 2 a.m. is the one day of the year that we can "turn back the hands of time". If you could really go back in time, is there anything that you would change about your life?

With all the mistakes, heartache, heartbreak, and stress I've gone through in my life, I would have to say that I would not change a single thing. I know that all my experiences were meant to happen and I've learned so much about the meaning of life. All the mountains I've had to climb has made me that much stronger and wiser.

I can only be thankful for all that I have been given.....

What's Your Purpose in Life?

" What every man/woman needs, regardless of his/her job or the kind of work he is doing, is a vision of what his place is and may be. He needs an objective and a purpose. He needs a feeling and a belief that he has some worthwhile thing to do. What this is no one can tell him. It must be his own creation. Its success will be measured by the nature of his vision, what he has done to equip himself, and how well he has performed along the line of its development. "
~ Joseph M. Dodge

We all have a purpose in life. Some of us have found it, some of us are still in search of it, and some of us don't have a clue. In Western society, most people get a job out of necessity. They don't really care what they do as long as they get a paycheck. They go to work and go through the motions without finding any meaning in their work. Some are happy because they have the money to pay bills and provide for their family. Some are unhappy because although they have money, their job does not fulfill their souls with meaning. This seems to be the case with many people in America. They spend more time looking at the clock and counting down the minutes til it's time to go home.

I'm not saying that this is not the case now, but there used to be a time when most people took pride in their work and believed that their work was their calling. Nowadays, people do something just because "it pays good" or their parents/friends urged them into doing it. We must follow our own heart and do something that we love. When we are not doing work that we love, it takes away our energy and focus. Our focus should be on our dreams and aspirations. We should be doing something today to get closer to achieving our goals in life.

Each of us has something that we love to do. When we are doing what we love we are relaxed, in bliss, and pay no attention to the time. Some of us are fortunate to get paid to do what we love, and others may work another job to support what we love to do. Whatever the case may be, there must be a balance in order for one to be happy and have a purposeful life.

It took awhile to get where I am today. I've realized, though, that every job I've had has given me the experience I needed for whatever I'll be doing in the future. I don't get paid millions now, but we'll see what the future holds :)

Have you found your purpose yet?

Patience and Perserverance

I sat at the bus stop and glanced at my watch. 8:54. Seven minutes late. My mind raced to figure out what to do. There was no way I was going to make my connecting bus. The old me would have begun a panic attack. I looked in my wallet and counted $15. I'll just take a cab at the transfer station, I thought.

During the bus ride I contemplated whether or not I was ready to take the next step in my business. Of course! Why would I even ask? I thanked God for the opportunity and knew that this was part of the journey of my dream.

I get to the transfer station and hop into a cab. The driver was a happy man and his energy washed away any anxiety I felt. We chit-chatted about life. I was able to make out most of his broken English.

"....I just moved here from Maryland and I've submitted my resume fo computer jobs to many places. I will wait and perservere. That's very important, you know, perserverance."

I agreed. "Yes, perserverance and patience is very important."

I made it to the meeting on time. Not only did I get a refresher on the importance of perserverance and patience, I was also reminded that everything does happen for a reason. The short exchange of thoughts and energy with the cab driver lifted my spirits and gave me the motivation I needed for the day. And much cheaper than going to a psychiatrist :)

Harness the Power of Your Dreams

"If you can imagine it,You can achieve it.If you can dream it,You can become it."
-William Arthur Ward

William Arthur Ward's quote should be a powerful call to action. Dreams have tremendous power. They sustain us through desperate times and drive us through difficult ones and give us hope for the future. More important-they inspire us!

Where would human beings be without dreams? Would we have explored distant places or invented the means to travel to those destinations? How many children are alive today thanks to the dreams of doctors and scientists? What works of art lift the hearts of countless masses due to the dreams of artists?

In the end so much is possible thanks to the power of dreams and yet so many people seem unwilling to free their own dreams. They shrug them off, ignore them, or reject them entirely-too difficult, impossible, ridiculous, meaningless.

But even the most frivolous dreams have meaning. If one person's life is touched by that dream-whether they are inspired, changed, or simply lightened-then that dream has power and meaning.

It is sad that in our society to be called a "dreamer" is actually an insult. In many societies, to be a dreamer was once a high calling. If we think of all that dreams have caused-from space travel to the creation of the United States of America to a polio vaccine-perhaps we can make dreaming acceptable again.

What do you do with your own dreams? Do you dare to voice them, dare to do something about them? Or do you instead spend your time finding excuses for why your dreams are impossible?
No dream is impossible! You have to believe that and you have to dare to dream, or your dream will be impossible, but there is no one to blame but yourself because you never let it become possible. Perhaps that is why so many perceive being a "dreamer" as something negative, because they view it as a passive exercise, but being a true "dreamer" is anything but passive-it requires action!

Yes, it is scary to dream, it is scary to take a leap of faith, to risk yourself. Even more frightening than failure is the knowledge that once you take that risk you will have lost your dream forever.
But do not be afraid, you can succeed, but even if THIS dream does fail, once you've become someone that dares to dream there will be others. Once you've made that change, once you've become a dreamer, there is no going back--and that is certainly a step on the road to success!

So, remember to Dare to Dream!

Highly Recommended Book: There Are No Accidents: Synchronicity and the Stories of Our Lives

I just started reading this book, There Are No Accidents: Synchronicity and the Stories of Our Lives by Robert H. Hopcke. He tells us about the concept of synchronicity and the deeper meaning of what may be perceived as mere coincidences.

Are there such things as "coincidences"? My belief is that there is no such thing as "just a coincidence" - only the Universe carrying out His plan for each and every one of us. Synchronicity, in effect, is taking place every minute of our lives.

"Accidents", "coincidences", "synchronicity", or whatever you want to call these experiences, give value to our lives. They offer proof that a Higher Power is at work. History is taking place. At the same time, the story of our lives are unfolding before our very eyes.

Yesterday I had a long conversation with the owner of a business I frequent. I came to find out that we have so many things in common. We agreed to collaborate and I would help him with his dream for his business. As I sat there talking to him I also realized that in working with him, my dreams were being fulfilled as well. If this isn't synchronicity at work, I don't know what is.

I've only just begun reading this book and already I'm more aware of and grateful for each and every moment of my life. I already knew that things happen for a reason. Now I have the reason.

Quotes on the Subject of Time

"We realize our dilemma goes deeper than shortage of time; it is basically a problem of priorities. We confess, "We have left undone those things that ought to have done;
and we have done those things which we ought not to have done."
~ Charles E. Hummel

"In truth, people can generally make time for what they choose to do;
it is not really the TIME but the WILL that is lacking."
~ Sir John Lubbock

Change Is For the Better

I usually don’t watch the local news (or any news for that matter), but today I was enticed by the “Affordable Housing in San Diego” information that was promised. To my surprise, the news wasn’t all that bad. In my opinion, the news is full of negativity and who knows if what is being reported is actually accurate. Especially when the government is involved. But let me stop before I go on a political rampage….

Anyways, there was a segment on Katrina survivors living here in San Diego which caught my interest. They interviewed a family that decided to settle here instead of going back to New Orleans. The man interviewed said that even though they lost everything because of the hurricane, it gave them a chance to start over. He also said that usually change is for the better. I agree.

I think it’s great that people can turn a disaster into a positive experience. Only God knows the deeper meaning of what happened. I believe that there are blessings in everything and anything that happens in our lives. For many people who experienced Katrina, they now have even better living conditions than in New Orleans. Some still have to face mortgage bills, but who knows what will happen in the future.

As I type this I am counting my blessings….

True Freedom

There are many definitions of freedom. Many wars have been fought on the basis of this idea called freedom. But what is freedom, really? Do you think that you are truly free?

To me, freedom is a state of mind. Freedom is experiencing true bliss and being able to enjoy life without restrictions and limitations. Being free means following your instincts and living your dreams. We do not need to go to war to be free. This is an illusion created by politicians who have hidden agendas.

Being free also means living your life without regard to what others may think of you. Many of us are concerned with "image" and not concerned with being true to ourselves. To live authentically is doing what you were meant to be doing and not doing what others say that you should do.

There is no "price for freedom". All you have to do is state that you are free and you will be free. Simple as that.
