Life Changes and Higher Callings

Last night my boyfriend and I went to see Wayne Dyer speak in downtown San Diego. I had been waiting months to see Dyer and it was a little surreal to see him in person after watching all the PBS specials with him. Seeing him refilled the inspirational jug because it was almost empty.

I have been going through some life changes -- moving to a new country, getting a new puppy, and relearning a new language. It was exciting, but to be quite honest, it was a little “stressful” as well. (I really try not to use the word “stress” because I don’t want it to seep into my unconscious and affect my state of mind.) Last night Dr. Dyer was the catalyst to remind me that with God by my side, there is really nothing to fear or doubt. His talk was truly inspirational and I could feel his energy - his calm and happy energy - filling the Copley Symphony Hall. I left with a sense of peace and knowing that all the changes that are happening in my life are certainly for the good.

The reason I was feeling out of balance up until last night was because I had been pulled over by the police twice in Mexico. The first time I had not made a “signal” when I made a turn. The cop threatened to take me to jail, so in my fear I ended up paying him off. There are so many stories that I’ve heard about the police in Mexico that I’ve had this little bit of paranoia which I realize is hindering me from experiencing all that is good.

Anyways, one of the things I did learn last night is that one of my Higher Callings is to help spread the messages that Dr. Dyer shares with me - along with the other teachers I’ve had in my life. If you’ve never read any of his books, I highly suggest that you read at least one. The first book I read by him was Power of Intention. I hope that he inspires you to follow your true path as he has done for me.

Have you ever read any of Dr. Dyer’s books or seen him speak? Any thoughts to share?

15 Ways to Organize Your Days From Studentl.inc

I truly believe that one needs to be a leader to get far in life. That's why I was happy to have found the studentl.inc blog. Tim Milburn, the writer behind the blog, has come up with a list of 15 Ways to Organize Your Days. I'm sure each of needs help in this area! Who doesn't want to be organized, right? Here is Tim's list (condensed):

1) Take care of the MUST DO's before the WANT TO's.
2)
Organizing the space AROUND you will help you organize the thoughts INSIDE you.
3) Danger: Paper has a tendency to cause piles on your desk. 4) Why PILE when you can FILE! 5) The phone is a TOOL not a TOY. 6) You got to have a system. 7) The flyleaf of your brain is unreliable. 8) Track your time for a day...for a week. 9) Make a DATE with your TO-DO. 10) Clean your drawers. 11) Focus on the one thing. 12) Listen to the voices. 13) Perfection is a PIPE dream. 14) Your best VIEW is your REVIEW. 15) Do something SIGNIFICANT!

#5 is one of my pet peeves. It bothers me somewhat when people are driving while talking on their cell phone...and on several occasions I've gotten close to being hit by someone who was talking on the phone! Thank God the Governor has passed a law to ban talking on a handheld cell phone.

As for the others on the list, I have been fairly good at doing these things. Sometimes I will slip, but overall I stay pretty organized. I just had a flashback of when I was a young girl and the way my brother would threaten me was to say, "I'm going to mess up your room!" He knew how much I liked my room to be very organized ;)

So, what are you doing to stay organized?

What Have You Learned in 2006?

As I've said here before, I am part of the "Joyful, Jubilant Learning" month over at Talking Story. Today was my day and I wrote an article...Ten Things I've Learned in 2006. It is truly an honor to have been invited to contribute to this project!

Hopefully this will inspire you to write your own list!

In response to my post, Rosa Say, the author behind Talking Story made a list...

Can’t resist: Ten Things I’ve learned about the no-longer-lurkers of the Ho‘ohana Community
1. We are attracted by aloha even before we completely understand what it means. Funny how that happens despite the immensity of the blogosphere. Like bees and honey.
2. We can individually disappear for weeks at a time, but slipping back in is amazingly easy. We’re all in it together, so everyone understands.
3. We are all getting bit by the relationship geek virus, and we don’t want to be cured.
4. We are getting increasingly impatient about taking some of our connections offline. Phone call charges? Who cares.
5. We challenge each other to write better without even realizing it. Linking is not about traffic; it’s about admiration and appreciation.
6. We welcome all comers, as long as their voices are positive ones. Optimism and enthusiasm absolutely rule. Respect is a given.
7. As far as we’re concerned, geographical distance is completely irrelevant. So are time zones.
8. We all spend too much time online, but we’d say, “We read a lot.”
9. We are absolutely, unequivocally obsessed with learning. We’re getting much better with asking terrific questions.
10. We suspect we are on the verge of something great, just not sure what it is.
Ah, blogging...what a blessing!

The Universe Tells Me To Slow Down...

Jessica Duquette of It's Not About Your Stuff has a post on emotional clutter that came at a perfect time today. The past two weeks have been busy-busy with helping my brother clean out his condo, babysit my friend's kids, keep up on my blog posts, read tons of Fashion Week coverage, etc. etc. My body was exhausted and my mind cluttered with thoughts of things “To Do”.

Well, the Universe told me it was time to slow things down....Yesterday I spent a great deal of time in bed and even slept about 12 hours to rejuvenate. I was starting to feel “sick” but said to myself over and over “I am healthy..I am healthy”. I woke up refreshed!

However, the concept of “Letting go” still needs practice!

Thoughts Are Everything...

"Think thoughts that make you feel good. Think thoughts, say words and do things that resonate with who you really are.with that broader, wiser, securer part of you. Then your feelings of Well-being, your feelings of worthiness, your feeling of value becomes very real to you. Then you have something to offer the world." Abraham-Hicks 1/8/91

Enjoying the Moment

"The challenge is in the moment, the time is always now." -- James Baldwin

Earlier this year I talked about the book, The Power of Now. For some reason I got "caught up in life" again and forgot about living in the moment. I'm doing this Zen exercise wherein you focus on an object for about five minutes and simply observe it without making judgments about it. Just simply look at an object and make note of the color or texture of it.

My boyfriend and I lived in this one area of San Diego for two years, but there are some places he would just notice even after passing by it just about everyday for two years! He now realizes how to slow down and just take in his surroundings and enjoy the moment.

Are you enjoying each and every moment of life? If not, why?

Thoughts on Accomplishing Goals

This morning I got an early start so I decided to walk up the street to my office, Starbucks, to write. The street I was walking on is a semi-steep hill. It doesn’t seem like much of a hill when you’re in a car, but when you’re carrying a laptop and a heavy purse, it can seem like a journey! A quarter of the way up the street I looked up and the end of the block looked sooooo far away.... I mean this hill is nothing compared to the San Francisco-type hills I’ve run up and down on when I lived downtown, but somehow it seemed like such a daunting walk. These are the thoughts that are going through my mind and I hadn’t even really started walking yet!

In life we can look at a task or project and become overwhelmed with it that we don’t even start it at all! We have to do this and that - oh, and this and that - oh, and this and that.

However, look at the “top of the hill” and imagine how you will feel when you finally accomplish what you set out to do! Just take one step at a time and by the time you know it, you will have accomplished your goal! All you have to do is just take that first step and that will start the ball rolling. Keep taking the steps and eventually the momentum will take you to your goal...

When I finally reached my destination this morning - Starbucks! - I was energized and feeling good about making it up that hill! I didn’t need that coffee after all ;)

Reflecting On the Past Year

As we start heading into the fall season I feel a sense of peace. The first part of the year was a big whirlwind as I started a new chapter in life and just started “settling” into my new outlook on life. I wake up full of energy anticipating the good things that are due to come that day. My thoughts are positive and I’m filled with a “knowing” that life is going to be good.

How about you? Have you reflected on the past year to see how far along you’ve come?

Today many people are out celebrating the holiday - or “No Work” day in the U.S. As people are enjoying the day at the beach or park, I’m taking the day to meditate on life. Every day is a holiday to me!!

Because I haven’t done it in awhile, I’ll leave you today with “This Week in Good Life History”:

Here are some other things to reflect on: Getting into any insurance deal is a commitment. Pet insurance is not something to be really worried about. However, in terms of life insurance or even home insurance, one should know all the details.
