When It Comes To Goals, There Are Three People in Life

I’ve been taking some time out to spend with my best friend’s daughters, so last Friday we made a “play date” and I took them to get ice cream and goof around at the park. My friend has three daughters, ages 9, 4, and 2 - so off to “The Treatery” we go... The 9-year-old was in the front on her skate board in a hurry to get ice cream. The four-year-old and I were in the middle strolling along at a moderate pace half-enjoying the walk and half-looking forward to ice cream. The 2-year-old was walking with her uncle behind us and boy, was she having a grand ole time taking in the scenery and anything else that crossed her fancy. We had to constantly stop and wait for the 2-year-old to catch up with us.

Finally we arrived at our destination - ice cream! I did learn something from that journey. When it comes to goals, there are three types of people in life:
1) the person who rushes through life with only the goal in mind
2) the person who goes through life at a moderate speed, but doesn’t get to fully enjoy the experience
3) the person who reaches their goal and totally immerses themselves in the journey while having the time of their lives
I’m shooting for #3... What type of person are you? Or do you believe in goal-free living?

Living Your Dreams and Remembering The Important Things In Life

Lately I’ve been spending quite a bit of time in coffee shops doing work. Oh, do I love my work! How many people can say that they can wake up whenever and do work wherever and whenever they wish? The other day I took a break from writing, looked out the window and realized just how blessed I am to be living my dream! Wow - I’m here and I really should be enjoying it more, dontcha think?

Oftentimes we get so caught up in chasing our dreams that we don’t realize that we’re already there! We’re constantly striving for more...wanting more...

I was at a friends house the other night and we watched the movie, Click! with Adam Sandler the other night. That was the first time in a long time that I actually just sat down, relaxed, and laughed my behind off! It was an eye opener for me. As much as I believe in living in the moment, sometimes I do get off track and forget why I’m doing what I’m doing. Last year I wanted more time to relax and spend time with family and friends. Now I have that time, but lately I’ve been absorbed with reaching for the next “level” of life - whatever that may be.

So, take it from me...Know that you are already on the path to living your dreams! Enjoy it! Smile! Have fun! And remember that relationships with family and friends are important ;) (I'm talking to you and myself!)

What's important to you?

Relax Now! Free MP3 Download

I recently discovered this website, Effective Learning Systems, which offers a wealth of tools to help you improve your mind and your life. They offer this free relaxation script MP3 download which I've been listening to for the past few days and I've noticed an increase in my energy and I just feel more positive!

This is a guided meditation that brings you into an alpha mental state...thus the name, "Alpha Break". I learned about alpha from reading a book called The Power of Alpha Thinking by Jess Stearn. According to this website:
"...Much research has been done on the benefits of the alpha state. Healing occurs naturally and the conscious mind is relaxed. The body is relaxed and feels different. Processing begins: The Higher Self and the Witness begin to function. The psychic abilities are awakened. Sensitivity to the energy flow (as perceived through the feelings) increases. Visualizations and affirmations are more effective."

Muhammad Yunus Wins Nobel Peace Prize

I found out via Know More Media that Muhammad Yunus, a Bangladeshi economist, has won the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts on getting micro loans for impoverished families. Here's a quote from The Washington Post article:

"You cannot go on having absurd amounts of wealth when other people have problems of survival," he said. "If you can bring an end to poverty, at least from an economic point of view, you can have a more livable situation between very rich people and very poor people, very rich countries and very poor countries. That's our basic ingredient for peace."

Peace!

Peace. It’s something we all want to attain...but for many it can be quite a challenge. There’s a great deal of pressure nowadays - pressure to do this, act a certain way, make a certain amount of money, live in a certain neighborhood - the list goes on and on. For some the pressure is enough to “lose it”, however, if you go deep within you’ll find peace hidden inside you. It’s been there all along, but we let all the distractions get in the way. We let other people think for us and sometimes their thinking may not be in harmony with our true essence.

Practice peace. How do you do that?

The first thing you can do is to simply ask for it. Ask The Universe to give you peace. I do it all the time when I feel uneasy or have been hit with a bit of negative energy. I take some time out, go in my meditation room, and just clear my head. The more you do this the easier it gets to find peace.

Peace is something that we are born with. Look at a baby and see how peaceful they are (except when they’re hungry!) Just content on being. Watch toddlers at play and observe how happy they are being in the moment. It’s a wonderful thing.

Another way I find peace is to think about the millions of other people out there who have it much tougher than me. As I sit here at the train station writing up this post, I’m observing a couple trying to sell their train tickets and asking people for cash. The girl looks like she’s about seven months pregnant. My problems are very small compared to theirs.

Knowing that your life is going to get much better - much, much better - should be enough to put you at peace. Have faith that it will happen for you!

Living La Vida Buena

Living in Mexico certainly has its advantages. At first I was hesitant about moving down here because of all the stories I’ve heard from people, but I’ve learned in life that you can’t let other people’s experiences cloud your own experience. I’m the type of person that likes to experience things for myself. Besides, it all comes down to our own perceptions of situations.

With that said, there is a silver lining to the cloud of my situation. For one thing, I’ve been able to do quite a bit of reflecting on life. I don’t have a TV or radio down here and even if I did I would only understand half of what is being said! With all this time on my hands and no bookstore or Starbucks in sight, I’ve been able to really focus on my business and my writing.

Some people question why I moved down here in the first place. My boyfriend and I have been telling The Universe that we wanted to experience something new. For quite some time we’ve also talked about moving out of the U.S. - so this is where The Universe has guided us to. Granted, it wasn’t what we had in mind, but nonetheless it’s definitely something different...a whole new experience.

Which brings me to the point of this post...In everything that we do - our decisions, our experiences, our life - we are always protected. The Universe is there for you - all you need to do is ask. Ask for protection. Ask for peace. Ask for strength. Ask and it shall be given.

Good Magazine: Choose Good!

I just found out via the Think Positive! blog about a new magazine called Good Magazine. Hmmm...great title, dontcha think! From the website:

“We see a growing number of people tied together not by age, career, background, or circumstance, but by a shared interest. This revolves around a passion for potential mixed with fierce pragmatism and creative engagement. We sum all this up as the sensibility of giving a damn. But to shorten it, let's call it GOOD. We're here to push this movement and cover its realization.”

The magazine is having a launch party here in San Diego on October 12th at Basic Bar in downtown! Must check it out! The best thing about this magazine is that your $20 subscription fee goes to your charity of choice. How good is that?

Think Positive and You Will Be Positive!

When you wake up in the morning, what are your first thoughts? Are you dreading going to work? Do you worry about something that needs to be done that day? Or do you wake up and think, “This is a GREAT day!” I hope it’s the latter that goes through your mind. Did you know that your first thoughts of the day affect how your day is going to be?

If you’ve been reading my blog for some time now, you know that I truly believe that your thoughts manifest themselves into your physical reality - that’s why you really should choose your thoughts carefully. It takes some discipline to be able to control your thoughts, but with much practice it will come easily. It’s good to get into the habit of meditating in the morning because that will allow you to practice thinking about “nothing”. After some time of having a clear mind, I start to invite good thoughts to come into my head. Positive affirmations I like to say to myself are:

“I am prosperous and healthy” “God provides for me every day in every way” “Today is a GOOD day!”

Think positive and you will be positive!
