Don't Forget Your Protective Shield!

As a person with the powerful forces of The Universe, did you know that you have a protective shield like superheroes do? All you have to do to summon your shield is to think it's there and it will appear around you instantly like an invisible field of protection. You can manifest this shield when you know that you're going to come into contact with someone who has a great deal of negative energy within them.

Unfortunately, I forgot my shield the other day when I talked to one of my friends on the phone. She's been my friend for years and I love her dearly, it's just that it's taking quite a bit of time for her to accept this notion that thoughts and words have a powerful effect on your destiny. She's watched The Secret, but hasn't quite fully understood it yet - although she says she has.

So, when I talked to her the other day, about 95% of the news she shared with me was bad. After I got off the phone with her and the day progressed, I started to feel irritated and down-n-out. I was trying to figure out where all these feelings were coming from. Finally I realized that I had let my friend's negative energy penetrate my soul. Wonder Woman-In-Training forgot to put on her gold bracelets.

It's so freeing to know that at any time you could turn a bad day into a good one just by one single thought! I pinpointed where the bad energy was coming from and wiped it out instantly by acknowledging it and sending it away. However, I could have avoided it altogether simply by putting up my protective shield. Well, Wonder Woman-In-Training has learned her lesson.

Must Reads: The Personal Development List

Priscilla Palmer is organizing a list of personal development blogs and I'd like to thank Raymond Salas for suggesting that the The Good Life be added to the list! So many of the regular blogs that I read are already on the list, however, I do have five more that I would like to add:
What I absolutely love about the internet is that you can meet so many other wonderful people who share the same views and beliefs. It's my hope that one day I will have the chance to meet all of them in person!

Laughter and Affirmations

One of my favorite comedians of all time is Jim Carrey. In this clip from the Tonight Show he talks about affirmations...He doesn't get into it until about minute 6, so you can either fast forward or enjoy his funny antics until then.

I wonder just how many of those audience members did go see the movie after he did that!

Anyhow, Jim Carrey did make a good point about how you really have to get rid of the negativity and believe what you are saying when you do say affirmations. I believe I saw him on another show where he said that before he became famous he wrote a check to himself for $10 million and when he was offered to do his first movie he did get that $10 million!

Thoughts and Advice on Tithing

Mother Teresa Quote
Free Money Finance has a good post titled, Does Giving Help Make You Wealthy or Are You Wealthy In Spite of Giving?

I think it goes either way. Certainly the more you give, the more you get back. I've seen proof of this time and time again when I donate to charity or give money to homeless people on the street. However, giving is not limited to money. You can give someone a smile or simply give kind words of wisdom.

For some people, this may be a hard concept to grasp. If you give money away that means less money in your pocket, right? However, money is like a boomerang - it always, always comes back!

Giving money away was one of my challenges when I first started on this journey to abundance. I started off small and eventually worked my way up to giving away hundreds of dollars without blinking an eye. It takes time, so if you don't feel comfortable doing this, just start off small.

Here is some advice from Steve Pavlina on the subject of tithing:

"...There is a place where giving is painless and receiving is selfless. Find that place in your own life, and move towards it. As you do this, your scarcity thinking will dissolve, and a mindset of abundance will flow through your reality."

Thought For the Weekend

Here's an interesting quote I came across today. Enjoy!

Discovering True Inspiration

What have you done to inspire others today? Do you feel inspired every moment of your life? As we continue on this journey through life, we're learning that happiness is not something that we have to buy - Happiness can be found in the moment. Happiness is a choice... It's doing what you love to do every second of every minute of every hour of your life.

When all is said and done, we all want to be happy. You feel rich by being happy and inspiring others. We all want to feel like we're needed in this world - like we have a purpose, right?

Wealth QuoteI've been studying celebrities lives lately, not because I want to be like any of them, but I wonder what the fascination is with them. What I've found is that they represent what we perceive is the "good life". They have the money, the nice cars, the fancy clothes... But when you see all the drama that happens with them, you realize, OK, their life really isn't all that. They have the same issues and insecurities that we do. They drink and drive, they go to jail, and they even commit suicide. So, if anything, their stories should tell us that having it all in the material sense doesn't mean anything if you're not spiritually tuned in or inspired.

That's not to say that celebrities are not inspiring. Many of them are truly inspiring when they're doing their work. Some of their life stories are inspiring, like the Lifetime special I saw the other day about Fantasia, the American Idol singer.

As I sat here and reflected on how I can be a more inspiring person, I thought about how I could turn my jewelry business into a business that inspires. Lately I've been looking at my blog stats and noticing that people are looking for inspirational jewelry. It's definitely a sign that I should be heading in that direction...

That said, I'm going to have a special sale on my current inventory of jewelry to make room for this new chapter in my business! From now through Sunday, August 20, you can take 60% off all items at my etsy shop! Also, I will be donating 10% of the sales to the Monarch School here in San Diego.

Please note: I'm making this offer to The Good Life readers only (and my special customers!), so the prices you see in the shop do not reflect the 60% discount. You will need to go through the process of purchasing the item(s). Please wait for a separate invoice from me that will be emailed to you after you've indicated your intention to buy those items.

Thank you!!

Happiness Is the Way

If you're a Wayne Dyer fan like me, you've probably seen his latest PBS special, Change Your Thoughts. I believe it was through PBS that I discovered Dr. Dyer when I watched his talk about The Power of Intention. I believe that was the book that inspired me to really stay true to myself and follow my dreams.

When I went to see Wayne Dyer talk here in San Diego last September, he said something that really hit a chord with me:
"There is no way to happiness...Happiness is the way..."
Many of us go on this search for happiness and don't even realize that it's up to us to choose happiness right now. We look to outside forces or circumstances that will make us happy. We say things like, "Well, I'll be happy when I have that _____" or "When I find love I'll be happy". However, why can't you be happy now? Why must we depend on things or other people to make us happy because in essence, those people and those things are really not going to make us happy. Happiness is doing what YOU love and just staying in tune with Spirit. That's what Wayne Dyer has taught me.

If you ever get a chance to see Wayne Dyer live, I highly recommend doing so!

Travel Dreams In Process

Back in December of last year a psychic from India told me that I would be doing quite a bit of traveling this year. He sure wasn't joking about that! I went to Chicago a couple months ago - a place I've been wanting to visit for a while now - plus I've been back and forth between San Diego and my parents place in Lemoore, California at least once, if not twice, a month now since February.

My best friend just came back from Florida and told me all these wonderful things about her vacation. So, I spent some time today looking at these Key West vacation rentals. I'll definitely be adding Florida as one of the places to visit either later on this year or next year.

However, my heart is really set on traveling abroad - especially to Egypt. A man who works for Coca Cola in the Egyptian region contacted me about information on Audi the other day. It must be some kind of sign... Lately I've been paying more attention to my thoughts and these synchronistic events that keep happening. Could it be a wink from The Universe that my desires have been heard? It's interesting because after I put up the picture of the pyramids on my vision board, I get that email from the man in Egypt and I was also contacted by someone regarding a business opportunity in the travel industry. Hmmm!

Book Review: 10 Ways to Make It Great

10 Ways To Make It Great by Phil GerbyshakThere are many self-development books on the market, but how many of them actually inspire you to take action? Some of us gobble up books left and right searching and searching for that one book that is going to make life that much better. I know, I've been that person. However, little do we know that we need to apply what we've read and take action.

I recently read Phil Gerbyshak's book, 10 Ways to Make It Great, which you may recall was on the summer reading list. I first met Phil through Customers Are Always and he has been instrumental to the success of that blog. A week doesn't go by that I don't receive an email from Phil letting me know about some interesting customer service articles. His energy is pretty contagious!

Why I Like 10 Ways to Make It Great
Not only is it a book that will teach you exactly how to create a better life for yourself, it's also a workbook wherein you can write down your own plans for your life. Most people read self-development books without really giving much thought to the lessons to be learned. This book forces you to stop and think, Ok, what is really important to me? What can I do right now to happier and more productive?

I especially like Chapter 7: Dream Big Dreams, Do Big Things! Phil suggests setting up a dream room or a place you can go to just get away and think. For me, that dream room would be my bedroom. Every morning when I wake up, I look at my vision board which is right beside my bed. I dream about the life I'm going to live at the same time being grateful for what I have right now.

In Chapter 7 Phil asks us to write down our first Big Dream. Here is what I wrote down:
A gorgeous peaceful mansion in Rancho Santa Fe with lush landscaping, a space for studios so that Cory and I can create all day. We would both work from home and travel the world helping others live a more inspired life.
Needless to say, I highly recommend reading 10 Ways to Make It Great if you sincerely want to live each and every day with inspiration. This book is exactly what I needed to keep moving forward with my goals! Thanks, Phil!

You can visit Phil and learn more about him over at his blog, Make It Great!

Enjoy the Good Ole Days Now

Mission Beach San Diego 2007One thing that I’ve been very good at as an adult is staying in tune with my inner child - the child that loves to do things just because it’s fun. I think if we can just let go for about an hour each day to do things we love (that we don’t get paid for) we’d be a much happier society!

Lately I’ve been so bogged down with work - work that I love to do - but work, nonetheless. If you were on the outside looking in, you would think I was a workaholic! If I’m not writing, I’m working on my websites. If I’m not working on my websites or blogging, I’m reading books or browsing the internet to help me with my business.
And maybe…just maybe…I’ll eat in between!
As I sit here typing this, my mind and spirit is drifting to the beach. I’ve only been to the beach one time this summer and it’s only a 20 minute drive away! I remember in my early 20’s going to the beach every weekend, roller blading or going for a ride on those beach cruiser bicycles
Ah, the good ole days!
But yet, we can still bring back those good ole days every day! Even if it’s just coloring in a book, swinging in the park, or simply eating a bowl of Lucky Charms!
Today I think I may watch some cartoons….What about you?

The Characteristic Every Successful Person Possesses

Do you know what characteristic every successful person has?

Persistence.

That’s one of the things that separates winners from losers. Persistence fuels the energy to keep you moving towards that goal.

My little God-daughter, Emma, is the epitome of persistence. When you tell her “No”, she will keep asking over and over and over and over until you say “Yes”. I once watched Emma ask her mom to buy her something - I believe it was a Hello Kitty purse - for one whole day. I could have easily bought the thing she wanted, but I was curious to see how long Emma could persist before her mom eventually gave in to her pleading. Needless to say, Emma is very good at manifesting what she wants.

How about you? Are you persistent? Do you keep going when people tell you that you can’t do it or it’s “impossible”? Do you follow inspiration when it calls or do you listen to what people think you should do?

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.” --Calvin Coolidge

August Focus: Following Bliss

Wouldn't it be nice to do something you love every second of every day? Did you know that this is exactly what you should have been doing all along?

The other day I decided that this month I was going to focus on following my bliss. Although I am doing what I love (blogging), sometimes there are days that I just don't feel like posting at all. But for some reason I feel obligated to post - like I would be letting down my readers if I didn't. Well - I erased all those thoughts and followed bliss yesterday. Yes, I did do some blogging, but I did it because I was inspired to and not out of some perceived obligation.

Incidentally, Debbie Call and I must be in synch because she posted her thoughts on this very same subject yesterday. I highly recommend just taking one hour of your busy day to do something you love. Start out small and work up to a whole day of simply following bliss!

So, what did I do during my day of bliss? I...
Are you following your bliss today?
