The writer over at Electronic Village has alerted me to the Bring Back Black initiative and event that is taking place on October 11. Electronic Village says:
"This leadership model will address the need for more effective political action, and grassroots economic development that benefits African American communities."
I think it's important for people to stand up, unite, and let their voices be heard - whether you're black, Asian, Hispanic, or whatever nationality you represent. We're all responsible for our lives and taking action is necessary to get anywhere in life. We can't sit around for things to just change on their own. It's nice to see events like this taking place.

I was going to write up an article today, but I came across this video of Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, two of my favorite singers of all time. The song pretty much sums up what I'd like to say...
From the time I was about eleven years old, I wanted to be a Psychologist. My best friend (who still is one of my very best friends til this day) said she wanted to be a Psychologist and because it sounded like a fancy thing to do, I decided I wanted to become a Psychologist as well.
Well, I ended up with a degree in Psychology, but funny thing - my very last semester of college I decided that I didn't want to become a psychologist anymore. I had no idea what I wanted to do...All I knew was that I wanted to have my own business. Doing what? I wasn't sure. I also knew that I had a great deal of soul searching to do myself. How could I even begin to analyze other people when I couldn't even get my own mind straight? How could I advise people on how to handle their own life situations when I couldn't even get my own feelings and emotions in check?
The reason I bring this up is because I've been thinking about how "things happen for a reason". There must be a reason why I have that Psychology degree. Am I destined to do things in the realm of psychology and self-development? Or was that simply training on how to become a more compassionate and understanding person?
My step-mother told me that if it was "meant for me to be rich", it will happen. If not - oh, well. However, that didn't sit well with me. Are we meant to become rich? Is it destiny? Or is it something that we choose to be?
I toy with these ideas because I used to be a person who believed that things do happen for a reason. Perhaps we do have this destiny. However, now I realize that we do have free will and we make these choices based on what we want to do. Our fate isn't decided for us. Some may argue that well, people don't just choose to die. However, I don't believe that. Perhaps they've just decided that Earth wasn't connecting with them spiritually and have decided to go elsewhere. Anyways, that's a whole other topic beyond what I want to talk about right now ;)
Anyways, the point I want to make is: It's up to you to decide whether or not you want to be wealthy, healthy, and live a prosperous life. There is no "if it's meant to be". The Universe will give it to you if you want it. You just have to claim it!

Lessons Learned From Oprah, Justin Timberlake, Reba McEntire, and Kelly Clarkson: Staying Grounded
I turned on the TV today and one of my favorite musical artists, Justin Timberlake, was on Oprah. Now mind you, I am not the type of person who gets "star struck", but something about Justin Timberlake makes me wanna throw my panties at the TV ;)
Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson were on the Oprah show too - two other artists that I've admired for quite some time. Reba sang duets with Kelly and Justin - songs of substance! (Buy Reba Duets at Amazon)
So, what do these three super-stars have in common? They've stayed grounded despite their rise to fame. What's interesting is that all of them come from "The South". Oprah mentioned that it's not hard to stay grounded if you come from that region. Reba, Kelly, and Justin all managed to not let the wealth and riches get to their heads. When it comes down to it, we're all the same - which was the message I took away from watching this show.
When you live out in the country, you get a good sense of what's most important in life - like friends and family. Also, because there really is no night life in small towns, you stay home more and have time to reflect and become closer to The Universe. I'm speaking from experience because I grew up in a wee town just outside of Fresno, California. My best friend and I spent many a night gazing out at the stars and talking about life...
What has kept you grounded?

For those of you who have been following this blog for awhile, you may recall that I had started this experiment: Double Your Way to a Million. It's been awhile since I've counted out how much I've accumulated, so I thought I'd post an update...
Drumroll please...
$15.07!
Certainly not a substantial amount considering I did start this a little over a year ago. However, I haven't been very active in my doubling like some of my fellow doublers are.
All of the money in my savings has been either found on the ground or my boyfriend gave to me. I think he gave me about $3-$4 of it.
Think about all those coins you pass by on the street and never bother to stop and pick up! For me, it never fails - whenever I think about the idea of finding money on the street, within a day or two I'll start finding coins on the ground. I just have to be more consistent and think about it more often.
I've thought about answering those Craigslist ads for free stuff and then turning around to resell them so I could add it to the pot. I may also open up a bank account and then use some of the money to invest in penny stocks. Fellow Doubler, Xinfinitum, recently started doing this and it sounds like fun ;)

Most of us think of hypnosis as a stage act or some form of entertainment where someone swings a watch in front of your eyes and you go into some kind of "trance", but did you know that you could use hypnosis to bring about positive changes in your life? Hypnosis is very much like meditation. Some people use it to relax. You can also use hypnosis to become more focused, more creative, lose weight, stop smoking, become more confident, sleep better, stop nail biting, cure difficulties in personal relationships, find a soulmate, etc.
You've probably experienced a form of hypnosis when you get in the car and drive home from work, but don't even remember the trip. That's because you were in "auto-pilot". You've also experienced hypnosis when you became really involved in a book or movie.
Now before I go into what hypnosis entails and how you can use it to live "The Good Life", let's dispel some myths about it:
1. You do not lose control of your body. During hypnosis a subject is fully aware of his/her environment. Think of your trained hypnotist as a coach or guide - not someone who wants to gain control over you. 2. Hypnosis is not dangerous. You cannot do anything that goes against your moral values. 3. You cannot get "stuck" in hypnosis. If anything, some people end up falling asleep during hypnosis or they come out of it when the coach stops talking.
Hypnosis, also known as hypnotherapy or hypnotic suggestion, is a state wherein the brain waves become relaxed. One enters an altered state of consciousness where suggestions are "planted" into the subconscious mind. There are different techniques used in hypnosis to help you gain more control of your actions or behavior:
a) The hypnotherapist talks in smooth, calming tone offering suggestions that will spur you to take action b) The hypnotherapist uses guided imagery to help bring about your goals and aspirations. I came across this great guided imagery/meditation at YouTube this weekend which I highly recommend. c) Self-hypnosis
Many of our bad behaviors are caused by negative thinking and with self-hypnosis, you can change that negative thinking into positive thinking. However, these three elements must be present in order for those behaviors to change:
1. Motivation. You must be motivated and desire to change the behavior. When you are motivated you are more likely to take action. 2. Self-talk. This is where positive affirmations come into play. They must be repeated on a daily basis. 3. You must believe it. Whatever you are suggesting to yourself must be believable to you. Start off small and then work your way up to bigger dreams and goals. If you want to lose weight, it will be more believable to lose 5 pounds in one week versus losing 20 pounds in one week. Make goals that leave no doubt in your mind.
I remember my first experience with hypnosis. I was in eighth grade and just "for fun" the principle had a hypnotherapist come to our school for our Friday assembly. He put the entire student body in a hypnotic state and had us sitting up and down, up and down in our chairs. Then I remember feeling my arms rise up at his suggestion... That's when I knew that hypnosis really worked!
Isn't It Ok For Arnold Chase To Build His Dream Mansion?
There's a home being built in West Hartford, Connecticut that is estimated at being 50,900 square feet. It's being built by Arnold Chase a business man whose family has made a fortune in media and real estate investments.
Just imagine having a 33,500 square foot basement complex with a 103-seat movie theater! Hmm...now that's The Good Life!
Some people think that building this home is just going a little overboard. Susan A. Eisenhandler, a sociology professor at the University of Connecticut, was quoted in this news article released by the Associated Press as saying, "Do you actually need to have that amount of space to live a good life? There are homeless people. There are impoverished people. There are serious social concerns, and we're not addressing that."
No, nobody needs that much space to live a good life, but I feel that if you have the money, why not build your dream home? Who knows, Arnold Chase may be addressing homeless and impoverished people as well. For all we know he donates millions of dollars to charities, so isn't he allowed to live the life that he desires?
What do you think?
