Dance Your Way to a Better Life

Ellen Degeneres and Barack Obama dancingMost days I like to take a break from my busy workday to turn on the TV and catch Ellen Degeneres' monologue at the beginning of her show. If you're familiar with the Ellen show, you know that right after the monologue a dance song comes on and she makes her way through the audience as everyone gets their groove on.

I always love to get up and shake my groove thang while watching Ellen because it always raises my energy a few notches. And when you have positive energy flowing through you, this in turn helps attract those things you've been wanting to attract into your life. Not to mention you also get that exercise you need to be healthier and more productive!

I came across this website that offers instructional dance videos for those of you like me who want to explore different styles of dance. Ever since watching those shows, So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With the Stars, I've wanted to learn ballroom dance, rumba, and hip hop.

Did you shake your booty today?

True Wealth

happiness quote
Does your happiness depend on how much money you have?

Last night I watched Friends With Money, a story about a group of friends - all of them pretty well off, well, except for one of them (played by Jennifer Aniston). The key takeaway in this movie is that no matter how much money we have, we will always face what I like to call "challenges" in life.

It's funny because in many ways I can relate to Aniston's character in this movie. I'm pretty much the only one out of 99% of my friends who isn't married, doesn't have kids, or has one of those high profile careers. What I have is a man who loves me dearly and shares the same passion that I have for life. If you paid me a million dollars to trade my life for the life that my friends lead, I would have to tell you to keep that million - if that tells you anything. Unless of course, I could still keep my boyfriend ;)

The thing is, money doesn't mean anything unless you have love: love for life, love for yourself, and a love for someone who loves you back just as much...Now that is true wealth ;)

The Ability to Respond: A Message to Those Affected by the Fires

In my email box today I received a message from James Ray. I wanted to make note of something important that he said in regards to all the fires that are going on in Southern California...
"...it's in the times of apparent challenge that we test who we really are. The Law of Attraction, which is so popular right now, states that you'll attract who and what you are into your life. This doesn't mean that we should blame ourselves for the fires raging like so many in the media have misinterpreted. Rather everything is your responsibility and nothing is your fault.

Please read that again.

If you dissect the word (response-ability), you find it really means "the ability to respond." How we choose our responses is what we'll continue to attract, create and become. To think that your life will be challenge free is illusion. Challenges are the way we test how much we have or have not developed our ability to respond.

I encourage you to take heart. Realize that in every challenge there is a gift. That's why in the esoteric traditions the Philosopher's Stone (another term for enlightenment) is always found in a pile of dung. Likewise, in Buddhism the thousand-petal lotus of enlightenment always grows from the muck and mire. Is there a metaphor here? Yes, there obviously is."
Fortunately, I've been spending the last week here at my parents' home in Central California. The area where I stay in San Diego hasn't been affected by the fires, but my thoughts and prayers go out to those who have lost their homes during this time.

I'm reminded of the time when I lived in the Philippines at Subic Bay Naval Base. The volcano, Mt. Pinatubo, had erupted and we had to evacuate the country. I remember packing a bag and taking a box of old photographs with me back here to the States where my brother and I stayed with friends. I think it was then that I realized that leaving behind all that "stuff" really didn't matter. What mattered most was that my family was safe...

Think Bigger and Expand Your Horizons

Every once in awhile I browse through Dream Homes Magazine to go shopping for my Dream Home. Oh, the homes are gorgeous in Rancho Santa Fe! It was only a few years ago a friend of mine handed me a Dream Homes Magazine and told me to "expand your horizons and think bigger". I took that magazine, browsed through it once, and said something like: Well, yeah, these homes are nice, but I don't I'll ever have that kind of lifestyle.

Of course, I know better now than to think that way. Now it's all about expanding my horizons and thinking bigger. Everyday I make it a practice to allow my imagination to just go wild. Now I think about changing the world like Ghandi or Jesus or Muhammad did. Now I think about private jets, writing best-selling books, and owning an island...

Now it's my turn to turn to you, Dear Reader, hand you the magazine, and say, "Expand your horizons and think bigger." Don't be one of those people who thinks that people shouldn't live this way when there are starving people in the world. The Universe created these homes for a reason. They're meant to be enjoyed. You are allowed to experience Heaven on earth!

It is only when you create an abundance mindset will the flow of prosperity come to you...

Living the Power of Now

Early last year I blogged briefly about the book, The Power of Now. Well, this past weekend I reread the first few chapters to remind myself of the importance of staying in the present moment at all times.

Many of us live our lives in the past or in the future. I'm sure you've heard someone say, "I remember the good ole days..." and proceed to tell a story of how life was so good back in the day. What about now? You could create a good day right now instead of always thinking how things were so good back then!

Then there are some of us who live for the future: "One day I'll do this...When I have the money I'll do this...I'll be happy when..."

For many people, the future also brings a little anxiety: "What if..."

While all this is going on, the present moment just comes and goes.

I used to wonder why I didn't have much of a memory for certain events and details about my life. What I've come to realize is that I was one of those people who never lived in the present moment. I was always thinking about what happened in the past and fearing the future. My mind was always thinking - replaying broken records full of bad songs. I would often forget my conversations with people because I was always thinking about something while they were talking to me.

If you find yourself in a situation where you can't seem to save any money or you're not attracting money as fast as you would like, perhaps you too are playing old reruns in your head without you being fully aware of it. I know I used to always hear, "Next time when we have money" from my mother when I was growing up. Our beliefs about money have deep roots in the beliefs our parents or caregivers had. Those beliefs become part of our mindset and become our way of life.

However, if you stay in the present moment and only think about all the abundance you have before you - right at this very moment - your brain will create a new memory of only good things like prosperity and wealth. That sets the tone for what the future will bring to you.

One affirmation I used to say to myself over and over was, "I have everything I need at this very moment. God provides for me every second of every day." This affirmation helped me stay in the present moment and just enjoy what was going on right in front of me. I became grateful for all the abundance that was placed before me at that very moment. When you truly believe that The Universe provides for you every second of every day, there is no worrying about money!

If weight loss is one area you'd like to work on, I recommend reading this post about how The Power of Now has affected this blogger and how it has changed her thoughts and behavior on losing weight.

Productivity Tips For the Work-at-Home Business

plantSteve Pavlina has an excellent article that I want to share titled Creating a Productive Workspace. The day before I read this article I had placed a new plant on the table right next to my desk. I also cleared all the paperwork off the table and replaced them with pictures of nature.

Then after reading Steve's post, I decided to take some of his advice, so I lit a scented candle (baked cookies scent..mmm!) and played jazz music in the background.

Since doing that I have noticed that I've been less stressed and more productive as I work throughout the day!

Here are more articles and resources about feng shui for business success and productivity:

The Only Rule to Live By

The Golden Rule QuoteI consider myself to be a rebel of sorts. When I worked at Nordstrom, we weren't allowed to have food in the stockroom (I worked in the kids' shoes department), but I made a little hideout for my drinks and snacks. My coworkers called it "the buffet" on the shoe self. Then there's my sense of fashion style. I'm not a follower of fashion trends although I do write about them on a daily basis. I've developed my own style and don't buy something just because a fashion glossy told me that it's a "must-have" for the season.

Rules. Rules. Rules. There seems to be alot of them out there and to a certain extent I do believe we should have rules. However, when it comes to living a good life, I don't think there should be any.

Many people have bought into this idea that to live a good life, you have to have a fancy home, drive this certain car, and attend this certain school. For some reason, it's become a rule that you have to do x, y, and z in life order to be "accepted" by society. Each of us has our own path in life. There are some who will have a short path to success and wealth. Then there are others whose path will take them on an up and down roller coaster ride. The people who live by their own rules and not somebody else's are the ones who will enjoy that success and wealth to the fullest.

No matter who you are, though, I believe that there is one rule you should live by....and that's The Golden Rule. The Golden Rule says that you should treat others like you want to be treated. Do you want to be admired for what you contribute to the world? Admire those who make valuable contributions to the world. Do you want to be wealthy and successful? Admire those who are wealthy and successful. Do you want people to support your business? Well, then, support other people's businesses!
