“We’re Not Passengers, We’re Drivers!”

Drive-Through photo by Nicholas T @ Flickr
This is what the little boy said to his father during a discussion about the train ride we were on the other day. The boisterous boy elicited smiles from all the passengers sitting nearby, myself included. The boy had a point, however…

In the game of life we are not passengers just going along for the ride. We are the drivers…the Creators who use creative visualization to reach our destinations. We decide where we want to go and we decide where we want to turn or make a pit stop.

If we stay focused on our destination, we usually get there quicker than if we take detours - detours meaning we’re indecisive about where we want to go. However, that doesn’t mean we should be in a hurry to get to that destination. Sometimes, it’s nice to just sit back and enjoy the scenery, as I did the other day on the train ride up the coast. And if you are one of those drivers who likes to take in the scenery, make sure to get in the right lane, ok?

SUCCESS Makes a Comeback

What does success mean to you? It’s a word that means something different for every person. Awhile back I offered the ten secrets to my success. No matter what your definition is, we can all agree that it’s something positive and good!

One of the things I’ve always stressed when it comes to personal development or self improvement is to read as much as you can about successful people. I’m an avid reader of magazines such as Forbes and Entrepreneur. And now I’ve added a new periodical to that list: SUCCESS.

SUCCESS magazine was founded over 100 years ago by a man named Orison Swett Marden whose goal was “to inspire, to uplift, to teach and to uphold models of success.” It’s been off the stands for awhile, but SUCCESS was recently re-launched and it’s come at a perfect time. The premiere April/May 2008 issue is jam packed full of great content with tips and advice from personal development teachers and successful entrepreneurs. Every issue of SUCCESS comes with a DualDisc (CD & DVD in one) with interviews and compilations of past and present success experts.

You know how you read magazines and only a few articles really stand out from the rest? Well, there’s something to learn from ever single article in SUCCESS magazine. I love it!

Jim Rohn, author of The Five Major Pieces to the Life Puzzle and The Challenge to Succeed, has an article in this issue in which he talks about developing a sound philosophy about life. He says:

“Your personal philosophy is the greatest determining factor in how your life works out.”

As I ponder on my own philosophy about life, I realize that this philosophy has guided me to my own personal and professional successes. It all goes back to this centuries-old idea that “what the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve”. When you develop your own philosophy, it keeps you focused on your goals.

I wish I could share everything I’ve learned just from reading this one issue of SUCCESS magazine, but this post would go on for days. You’ll just have to read it yourself!

“Success is not solely defined by financial accumulation. Creating financial freedom and abundance are aspects, but success is also being a leader in business, improving your relationships, living healthfully and making a difference in the world.” -- Darren Hardy, SUCCESS Publisher and Editorial Director

Manifesting What You Want in Life: Is Your Vision Clear?

This past week the word “vision” came up in many of my blog readings. I believe it started with the discovery of the Visionary Blogging blog that Easton Ellsworth recently started - who is, by the way, my editor over at Know More Media. I also asked my customer service blog readers the question, "What’s Your Vision?" And I do recall writing about having a vision over at my online business blog.

Of course, being in the now and focusing on what’s going on at this very moment is the cornerstone of a happy and fulfilling life, but I also believe that we should look to the future once in awhile and envision where we’d like to be. After all, we create these vision boards for a reason. These boards are our vision for what we want to manifest in the future, right?

When I’m laying in bed at night, I visualize myself walking into my multi-million dollar mansion…Huge windows provide views of grassy hills and the ocean in the near distance.
Every time I have this vision, I feel this surge of giddiness - as if I already have it!

If there’s anything I’ve learned about manifesting your desires, it’s that you have to have a clear vision of what you want, but just as important as having a clear vision is putting those good vibes and energy into it. Happiness is the key to success! It’s not the other way around…

Are you a visionary? Are you being crystal clear about what you want in life? Let me give you an example of what I mean by this…

One day I was cleaning the house and I was saying this affirmation to myself:

“I attract a large amount of money now…”

I said this to myself over and over for about thirty minutes. Well, about an hour later I get a call from my brother…

“Hey, my jacket I left there has about $700 in the breast pocket. Can you take out the money and set it aside in a safe place?” he asks.

“Ok, sure…” I said. I hung up and thought Wow, I did attract that money, but it’s not mine!

See what I mean? I should have been more specific and detailed about what I wanted. Perhaps a better affirmation would have been:

“A large amount of money is mine now…”

See the difference?

The next time you’re visualizing what you want, see every little detail. Get that crystal clear vision! If it’s a new job that you want, picture everything from what clothes you’re wearing at your new job to what your desk would look like…Even think about what type of pen you’ll be writing

We're All Social Workers

As a writer who writes a great deal about business, I often talk about how important it is for people attending college to take psychology, sociology, or social work classes. In my experience taking college business classes I noticed that there isn't any curriculum for customer service. I did learn a little bit about interpersonal communication in one class, but that's the extent of my lessons in building relationships.

No matter what we're doing in life, we all need the skills to communicate effectively with each other. If you really think about it, we're all doing social work, right? Psychology is part of all our lives - whether it's relating to ourselves or each other, talking to our co-workers, or volunteering. Mother Theresa, Martin Luther King, Ghandi...They were all social workers!

What are you doing today to build the skills so you can be a better person or be a better communicator?

The "seven social sins":
Knowledge without character
Science without humanity
Wealth without work
Commerce without morality
Politics without principles
Pleasure without conscience
Worship without self-sacrifice
- Mahatma Gandhi

3 Powerful Tips for Becoming a Financial Master Mind

- by Tony Mase

Tony Mase - All Rights Reserved
http://www.constructivescience.com
====================================================

Not long ago, I received a question from one of my newsletter subscribers that went something like this (I've edited out the personal details):

"Hi Tony Mase, I am faced with a rather complex situation. I agree 100% with everything I read in Wallace D. Wattles' book, but I am so deep in financial difficulty that whenever I try not to ponder on my circumstances I am constantly reminded of it by my creditors calling me."

"I find it very hard to develop my faith and put into practice what I have learned while I am in this position. I would just like to know what you would suggest? Thank you for making life so much easier."

When I first read this question, I was immediately reminded of a passage in Wallace D. Wattles' classic masterpiece, "The Science of Getting Rich":

"Every man has the natural and inherent power to think what he wants to think, but it requires far more effort to do so than it does to think the thoughts which are suggested by appearances. To think according to appearance is easy; to think truth regardless of appearances is laborious, and requires the expenditure of more power than any other work man is called upon to perform."

"There is no labor from which most people shrink as they do from that of sustained and consecutive thought; it is the hardest work in the world. This is especially true when truth is contrary to appearances. Every appearance in the visible world tends to produce a corresponding form in the mind which observes it; and this can only be prevented by holding the thought of the TRUTH."

"To look upon the appearances of poverty will produce corresponding forms in your own mind, unless you hold to the truth that there is no poverty; there is only abundance." "... to think riches when in the midst of appearances of poverty, requires power; but he who acquires this power becomes a MASTER MIND. He can conquer fate; he can have what he wants."

A "master mind", by Wallace D. Wattles' definition, is one who can think what he or she wants to think, regardless of what's going on around them.

In answer to this reader's question, here are three powerful tips for becoming a financial "master mind" that'll help you conquer fate and have what you want:

Tip #1 - Eliminate distractions.

In this particular case, the first thing I'd suggest is to either change his telephone number to a private, unlisted telephone number, dead-end all his telephone calls into an answering machine or voice mail system and then check his messages as infrequently as possible, or turn off his
telephone's ringer and just plain stop answering his telephone altogether.

Creditor calls distraction eliminated! :-)

Tip # 2 - Stop focusing on what you *don't* want.

There is a Creative Power within you that makes your life into the exact image of that to which you focus your attention.

Trying "not to ponder on my circumstances" is a bit like trying not to think about pink elephants...

The more you try *not* to think about pink elephants, the more you think about pink elephants, don't you?

And...

Since that's where your attention is focused...

"Pink elephants" are exactly what you'll have in your life.

So...

How do you *not* think about pink elephants?

Simple...

Think about blue elephants instead.

When you focus your attention on blue elephants, the pink elephants disappear all by themselves, don't they?

And...

Since that's where your attention is focused...

"Blue elephants" are exactly what you'll have in your life.

Thus...

Tip #3 - Stay focused on what you *do* want.

Clearly define the exact financial situation you want and imagine yourself as if you were already there.

Whenever you catch yourself thinking about "appearances", your perceived "circumstances", gently switch your thinking to your clear and definite mental experience of yourself already in the exact financial situation you want to be in.

Do this consistently and you'll find your financial "appearances" changing rather rapidly.

Remember...

You have the natural and inherent power to think what you want to think.

You can think what you want to think or you can think thoughts suggested to you by the people and things around you.

Thinking what you want to think will get you what you want.

Thinking thoughts suggested to you by the people and things around you will get you more of what you already have.

The choice is yours...

Make it a good one! :-)

The Good Life Is...Starting a Business

If you've been reading this blog for awhile now you know that I own several businesses that have been bringing in multiple streams of income. Some of the income is passive, but much of it comes from doing what I love - writing, making jewelry, and creating art.

I started these businesses when I realized that I wasn't going to get rich working for someone all my life. Sure, I could work 40+ hours a week, save my money, and hope that it would be enough when I retire at 65. However, that vision didn't appeal to me. I wanted the freedom to live my life the way I want to and not according to someone else's agenda. I wanted to do something that I love, help people, and make money in the process. What's the point of living when you can't do what you want?

Well, that's been my mentality for almost seven years now and now I'm living my dream of having my own business, waking up and going to sleep whenever I want to, and following my heart's desires. I decided that the only way for me to achieve my biggest dreams in life was to create it myself and YOU CAN TOO!

    Freedom-Move to the Rhythm...

Have you been thinking about your passions in life? Have you thought about starting your own business? Have you thought about being completely free to do what you want and follow your dreams? Here are a few tips to get started:

    1. Take out a sheet of paper and write down any hobbies or interests you have. Look over the list and think about each of those interests. Can you picture yourself creating a business around any one of those interests? Can you envision yourself doing it for a long time?

    2. Start researching and reading books about starting a business. If you need help with this, let me know!

    3. Read about successful people in business and find a mentor(s) who can coach and motivate you. Only learn from someone you want to be like and who shares the same values as you.

    4. Make connections with people both online and offline. Remember that marketing is all about building relationships and getting the word out that you have a business. I've used Vistaprint.com for business cards, address labels, and they print postcards as well. (Use coupon code “BlogPostcards100” at checkout to receive 100 free postcards)

    5. Remember that a business is about helping people, not selling a product. How can you solve a problem? How can you make someone's life better or easier?

    6. Take action now!

    Have any tips to share?

The Journey Inward: A Book Review of "High Way From Hell" by Moonstone Star White

High Way From Hell by Moonstone Star WhiteIt was almost ten years ago that I was "awakened" to discover the real me. As I continue on this spiritual journey many books have been laid out on the path for me. Recently a book titled High Way from Hell: Using Emotion to Fan the Fire of Enlightment by Moonstone Star White came my way which led me on an adventure deeper into my spirit.

Like many self-help books I've read, this books talks about being in the now, the law of attraction, releasing yourself from judgment, and being in touch with your feelings. However, this book gave me the exercises I needed to dig deep into my subconscious and pull out all the guck and ickiness that was buried. My body literally went into shock and I was in bed sick for three days while I was reading this book. To me that was a sign that the book was helping me heal all those negative emotions that I had suppressed for so many years - feelings I thought I had gotten rid of.

The big takeaway from this book is that the path to enlightenment begins with you and Moonstone Star White has an uncanny way of guiding you to the real you. Here's an excerpt from one of the chapters titled "Finding Your Niche in a World with One Mission" that sums up this book for me:
"Personal growth and spiritual healing is the first and most important step anyone can take toward healing the problems of the world. It begins by examining, without judging and in an impeccably honest way, the contents of your own heart. You must know yourself deeply and profoundly. From there it is a matter of seeing opportunities to help others as the opportunities present themselves and as you are able to act on them. This is the seed of the mission each person is born into the world with. The path to personal growth and fulfillments is the only path that truly helps others in anything more than a superficial way. Paradoxically and in a symbiotic way, only by helping others can we find lasting peace and fulfillment, but the journey inward must come first."

Thumbs Up For "The Big Give"

Oprah's The Big Give"There is a wonderful mythical law of nature that the three things we crave most in life -- happiness, freedom, and peace of mind -- are always attained by giving them to someone else." --Peyton Conway March

Last night I watched Oprah Winfrey's new show, The Big Give. The show was on for 3 minutes and the tears were already flowing! I'm always inspired by shows like these - especially when I watch Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. The sentence "Move that bus!" gets me every time. I cry tears of joy like it was actually me getting a home makeover!

What many people don't realize that if you have to give in order to receive. If you want to attract more money into your life, then give money away! Do you want to find happiness? Put a smile on someone else's face! I guarantee that whatever you give will come back to you tenfold. How can I guarantee this? Well, I've seen it happen in my life over and over and over...

The Big Give is the kind of show that spreads good vibes and lets people know that anything is possible. We need more shows like this to inspire people. Can you imagine what the world would be like if each and everyone one of us - poor or wealthy - did one good thing for another human being every day?
