Br...</title><content type='html'>Maria, Thank you for your reminder about goals. Brian Tracy goes even further on goal setting and offers a very useful exercise. Maybe I could share it here....&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;AN EXERCISE THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;This is not an exhaustive treatise on goals and goal setting. It’s simply an exercise, which if you do it, will give you some fascinating insights about yourself.&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;Many who have tried it have found that their entire thinking process has changed, along with the circumstances of their lives.&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;Chances are though, that just like 95% of people around you, you won’t do it. You’ll procrastinate and make excuses. Or you’ll start and then stop. And you’ll stay exactly where you are.&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;Which, by the way is great – if you’re happiest just where you are.&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;But if you’re not, why not take Nike’s advice and “Just Do It!”&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;THE IMPORTANCE OF BALANCE&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;You don’t have to be a tightrope walker to appreciate balance. Just trying to cope with the pressures of life in today’s world can be a real challenge. We each have different roles in areas such a family, work and perhaps a social or spiritual dimension of our life. If you feel guilty because being at work means neglecting your family and vice versa, you know what we mean. &lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;So give some thought to your physical (health and ideal weight), emotional and spiritual goals. Also, work and family; perhaps the house, type of car you drive, even the type of real friends you aspire to associate with. There is a whole world of worthy goals to consider. So why not give some real consideration to these things, and channel your thinking in a worthwhile direction.&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;THE EXERCISE&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;1. Buy a spiral notebook – Careful, this is a major hurdle that can lead to indefinite procrastination. &lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;2. Simply write down about 10 to 15 goals that you would really like to see manifested in your life. This may take 10-15 minutes, but this is worthwhile. By just doing this, you will be spending more time on your goals than most people spend on their’s in their entire life.&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;3. Write every goal starting with the letter “I.” In a sense, these statements are just like affirmations.&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;4. Make sure that each goal is in the present tense.&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;5. Describe each goal as clearly as possible.&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;6. Do this for 30 days with each day on a new page, and without looking at the previous page (on days 2 onwards it should take only about 5 minutes a day).&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;There are definite psychological reasons for the above steps. It sets in motion the reticular activating mechanism of the brain, which begins to look for opportunities to bring each goal into being.&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;Eg “I have a computer”&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;The above is acceptable, but compare it with&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;“ I Have a brand new Dell computer, 1024 megabytes, Pentium 4 processor, broadband, and with television tuner.”&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;THE EFFECT&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;This is something you will want to experience for yourself. But what you will find is that, at the beginning at least, you will not remember all your goals. That is OK.&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;What this means is that some of the things you thought were important at one point may only have been a whim of the moment. And so your list may change as each day passes.&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;As time goes on, however, the list will change less often and eventually it will stay the same.&lt;BR/&gt;But this is where the power of goal setting really begins to work, and you will start to notice a change in your thinking. &lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;You will start to think of the goals as actually being possible. And as your thinking changes, your decisions will change, and so will your actions. As your actions change, so will you. And suddenly, you will start to possess an inner confidence.
