Book Review: Sound Health, Sound Wealth

Sound Wealth, Sound Health book coverWhen many of us think of the word “wealth” we think of money, big houses, fancy cars, and the type of lifestyle led by celebrities and dignitaries. But did you know that wealth can also mean having fulfilling relationships, being happy, and having sound health? Luanne Oakes helps us explore and discover our own definition of wealth in her book, Sound Health Sound Wealth: The Biology of Hope and Manifestation.

Through her life experiences and examples, Luanne offers tips and exercises so that we can make our lives better every day in every way. I learned such things as the Principle of Resonance which is “perfect oneness with the Source of All Creation” and the concept of Future Memories which are goals and dreams that you experience through your Body, Mind, and Spirit.

Much of what I read in the book was nothing new to me in regards to the concepts of “thoughts become things” and “living in the moment”, however, there was a part of the book that fascinated me where the author talks about sound and light and how they provide a path to healing our bodies. Sound Health, Sound Wealth will really make you think about the subtleties of life and how everything that you think and everything that happens to you affects you at the cellular level.

What I Like About Sound Health, Sound Wealth

My favorite chapter of the book was chapter five where the author talks about The Principle of Transforming Time. I often think about time and how the concept came about. Many of us complain that there is never any time to do anything or there just isn’t enough time in the day to accomplish our goals.

I like this line from chapter five:
“When you Make a Decision and intend to change your relationship with time, it is increasingly possible to string transcendent moments together like a beautiful and exotic strand of pearls.”
What’s fascinating to me is that our perception of time changes at any given moment of the day. When you’re doing something you love time appears to go by fast and then when you’re doing something you dread (like being in a job you hate!) time seems to go by soooo slow.

Many of us are in such a rush to get where we want to be that we believe that isn’t any time to do anything. We believe that we need to accomplish all these things in order to be successful, so quantity takes precedence over quality. However, if you change the “there’s no time” belief into a “there’s plenty of time” belief, you’ll start to discover that there is indeed time to do everything that you want to do.

True Wealth quoteBook Bonus:

Sound Health, Sound Wealth comes with a Frequency Treatment CD that helps you get into a more relaxed mood. I like to listen to it while I’m cleaning the house or taking a little snooze in the middle of the day.

Thumbs Up!

Would I recommend reading Sound Health, Sound Wealth? Definitely! It’s not your typical self-help book. This book will really make you delve deeper into the recesses of your mind and think more about life on a metaphysical level. It will make you realize what true wealth is!

SUCCESS Makes a Comeback

What does success mean to you? It’s a word that means something different for every person. Awhile back I offered the ten secrets to my success. No matter what your definition is, we can all agree that it’s something positive and good!

One of the things I’ve always stressed when it comes to personal development or self improvement is to read as much as you can about successful people. I’m an avid reader of magazines such as Forbes and Entrepreneur. And now I’ve added a new periodical to that list: SUCCESS.

SUCCESS magazine was founded over 100 years ago by a man named Orison Swett Marden whose goal was “to inspire, to uplift, to teach and to uphold models of success.” It’s been off the stands for awhile, but SUCCESS was recently re-launched and it’s come at a perfect time. The premiere April/May 2008 issue is jam packed full of great content with tips and advice from personal development teachers and successful entrepreneurs. Every issue of SUCCESS comes with a DualDisc (CD & DVD in one) with interviews and compilations of past and present success experts.

You know how you read magazines and only a few articles really stand out from the rest? Well, there’s something to learn from ever single article in SUCCESS magazine. I love it!

Jim Rohn, author of The Five Major Pieces to the Life Puzzle and The Challenge to Succeed, has an article in this issue in which he talks about developing a sound philosophy about life. He says:

“Your personal philosophy is the greatest determining factor in how your life works out.”

As I ponder on my own philosophy about life, I realize that this philosophy has guided me to my own personal and professional successes. It all goes back to this centuries-old idea that “what the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve”. When you develop your own philosophy, it keeps you focused on your goals.

I wish I could share everything I’ve learned just from reading this one issue of SUCCESS magazine, but this post would go on for days. You’ll just have to read it yourself!

“Success is not solely defined by financial accumulation. Creating financial freedom and abundance are aspects, but success is also being a leader in business, improving your relationships, living healthfully and making a difference in the world.” -- Darren Hardy, SUCCESS Publisher and Editorial Director

The Consequences of Being Stuck in a Rut

Living the Brain by Derrick T One day my best friend and her daughters wanted to go to McDonald's for lunch. My friend said that we were going to the McD's that was a little further away from the house.

"Why don't we just go to the McDonald's right here?" I asked.

"The girls like to go to the other one. You know how kids are..." she answered.

So I turned to her eldest and asked, "What's wrong with the McD's here? Why do you like the other one?"

She shrugged her shoulders and answered, "I don't know."

I then went on to explain to her that it was good to try something new everyday because you never know what you'll discover. There might be better things out there you would have never known about if you didn't go out and explore.

Many people get caught in a life rut which is actually detrimental to their mental health. I just read an article where Norman Doidge, author of The Brain That Changes Itself, says that as we get older we stop challenging ourselves, and consequently, our brain starts to slow down.

This is partly the reason why many of us get caught in a money rut or any other type of rut in life. People are not challenging themselves to try something new - like a new job, a new route to work, a new haircut, or even a new business. We're comfortable with what is familiar. Some people would rather live paycheck to paycheck than find a higher paying position doing work they love.

When you're stuck in a rut you become blind to any signs or opportunities that may come your way. You become like those horses with those patches over their eyes and become focused on where you think you have to go instead of seeing anything else going on around you.

So, have you tried anything new lately? Are you challenging yourself today? Well, it's time to live consciously!

Hypnosis For Self-Improvement

Most of us think of hypnosis as a stage act or some form of entertainment where someone swings a watch in front of your eyes and you go into some kind of "trance", but did you know that you could use hypnosis to bring about positive changes in your life? Hypnosis is very much like meditation. Some people use it to relax. You can also use hypnosis to become more focused, more creative, lose weight, stop smoking, become more confident, sleep better, stop nail biting, cure difficulties in personal relationships, find a soulmate, etc.

You've probably experienced a form of hypnosis when you get in the car and drive home from work, but don't even remember the trip. That's because you were in "auto-pilot". You've also experienced hypnosis when you became really involved in a book or movie.

Now before I go into what hypnosis entails and how you can use it to live "The Good Life", let's dispel some myths about it:

1. You do not lose control of your body. During hypnosis a subject is fully aware of his/her environment. Think of your trained hypnotist as a coach or guide - not someone who wants to gain control over you.
2. Hypnosis is not dangerous. You cannot do anything that goes against your moral values.
3. You cannot get "stuck" in hypnosis. If anything, some people end up falling asleep during hypnosis or they come out of it when the coach stops talking.

Hypnosis, also known as hypnotherapy or hypnotic suggestion, is a state wherein the brain waves become relaxed. One enters an altered state of consciousness where suggestions are "planted" into the subconscious mind. There are different techniques used in hypnosis to help you gain more control of your actions or behavior:

a) The hypnotherapist talks in smooth, calming tone offering suggestions that will spur you to take action
b) The hypnotherapist uses guided imagery to help bring about your goals and aspirations. I came across this great guided imagery/meditation at YouTube this weekend which I highly recommend.
c) Self-hypnosis

Many of our bad behaviors are caused by negative thinking and with self-hypnosis, you can change that negative thinking into positive thinking. However, these three elements must be present in order for those behaviors to change:

1. Motivation. You must be motivated and desire to change the behavior. When you are motivated you are more likely to take action.
2. Self-talk. This is where positive affirmations come into play. They must be repeated on a daily basis.
3. You must believe it. Whatever you are suggesting to yourself must be believable to you. Start off small and then work your way up to bigger dreams and goals. If you want to lose weight, it will be more believable to lose 5 pounds in one week versus losing 20 pounds in one week. Make goals that leave no doubt in your mind.

I remember my first experience with hypnosis. I was in eighth grade and just "for fun" the principle had a hypnotherapist come to our school for our Friday assembly. He put the entire student body in a hypnotic state and had us sitting up and down, up and down in our chairs. Then I remember feeling my arms rise up at his suggestion... That's when I knew that hypnosis really worked!

For a demonstration on hypnosis, check out this episode of Criss Angel. He's one of my favorite people to watch in action...

One of the Secrets to Creating Abundance

Many of you have probably watched The Secret and have been applying some of the principles you learned in this movie into your own life. And if you’re like me, you’ve probably latched onto other self-help/self-improvement programs because you feel as if there’s something missing. You’re doing the visualizing and you’re feeling good - but nothing is happening…

You’re still broke - if not more broke than you were before watching The Secret. You’ve disregarded all the hoopla and simply believe that it doesn’t work. You can’t think your way to becoming rich. It’s all hogwash.

If this sounds like you, perhaps what I’m about to tell you will give you a glimmer of hope…

One morning I awoke from a dream. I can’t remember the dream itself, but I do remember as I woke up the word “Allow” that echoed through my mind. Hmmm…what could that mean? I thought to myself.

It wasn’t until I read Ask and It Is Given by Esther and Jerry Hicks did I realize that I wasn’t allowing the good to come into my life. I would wake up in the morning, do my visualizing and meditating, but whatever my intentions were wouldn’t show up because I would keep dwelling on those intentions throughout the day. What I didn’t realize was that by dwelling on those wants/wishes/intentions, I was actually sending a signal out to The Universe that I still lived in a state of lack - in essence, I wasn’t happy with where I was at the moment.

After you meditate and visualize in the morning, let those thoughts go and go on with your day like you normally would - just enjoying each and every moment and acting as if everything you have has already manifested in the physical dimension. In other words, fake it until you make it. We all played pretend when we were young, right? It’s the same exact thing.

This all sound so much easier said than done, I know. In fact, I sometimes forget about this concept of “allowing” myself. I’ll give you a great example…One day I think I wrote for about eleven hours. I wrote so long that my shoulders started hurting and my eyes were bloodshot from staring at the computer screen all day. I wanted so much to make more money with my writing! I had noticed that some of my articles hadn’t been picked up from publishers and some of the ad revenue for my blogs had slowed down. I felt like I should be writing more. Instead, what I was creating were these road blocks because I was acting out of fear of not having enough money.

A couple weeks ago I was tallying up my income for the past few months and did you know that I made more money during the months that I took vacations?

One of the secrets to creating abundance is to simply relax and allow wealth to come to you! Wherever you are right now, just RELAX and be happy. Stop chasing wealth. Let the Goodness flow to you. ALLOW abundance and wealth come to you easily and effortlessly.

One of my inspirations for today's post:
Easily manifest more money, more freedom, new ideas or anything else you desire…
